Hey it's the host, coach, and runner, Scott. My dad died last year. He was 62. I am running a 100k on his birthday in his home state of West Virginia to remember in a week. I'd love to share the journey with you until Season 5 starts, the day after his birthday.
On this show, my training for the last 6 months.
Thanks for listening!
On the first day of the first ever live event from the efforts of the Becoming Ultra Project, a trail camp in Colorado, we are humbly launching another season of Becoming Ultra. A new coach, a new coaching program built on storytelling and accountability, and what we expect from the future runners training for this feat.
If you aren't applying, could you share with someone you think should! All the details for applying can be found at www.becomingultra.com/season5

Fall is right around the corner and so is Season 5 of Becoming Ultra. Lots to share on this first day of September from injured runners making comebacks to more grief running, updated websites and a Grady update. Enjoy the show!
Our guest really hasn't been running for that long but he has come a long way for sure. A doctors visit, lifestyle change, and move across the country has totally changed his life. Listen to get excited and inspired to run!
Thanks for listening.
Janet Patkowa ran the American River 50 for Season 2. She has had a good year and a half to reflect on the experience of running her first ultra. Much of her outlook and lifestyle has changed. What would she do different? What's next?
Hope you enjoy the show.
Wesley Trimble. This dude had me wanting to go on and on forever. His adventures are more epic than 99.9% of us, elite or otherwise. If this account of a first ultra doesn't inspire you, we give up;)
Another great story of perseverance and running long distance!
From our guest:
"I'm an American expat now based in Scotland. I completed my first ultra last week, a 50k along the Great Trossachs Path in Scotland's first national park. I actually missed the race that I was due to compete in -- the Great Tartan Skidaddle -- because on race day, I was in hospital on a drip after being rushed in by ambulance because of a blood infection due to pneumonia (ait was approaching sepsis and apparently quite dangerous). I was gutted to miss the race. I recovered well and decided to run the race route as a solo affair with a friend from my trail running crew (the Carron Valley Trail Runners) and my wife. I even spoke to the race director after I completed the route. So I did complete my first ultra, just a week later than planned."
Enjoy the show.

We have had a chance to catch up with the runners after this season but we wanted to get the coaches alone to hear what they thought about their clients, and the season as a whole. We also tease some exciting news about season 5! Coming in September.
Rebecca trained for 6 months to have an experience only a small percentage of the world can say they have tasted. It was an honor to follow her story. Hear what she took away from it all!
We all justify why we can't or won't do something we really want. Like making more money, winning losing weight, getting faster. It doesn't matter. When we tell the world we want something but tell ourselves something else, it's time for a little tough love. We hope this helps you out of some of your default excuses!
The Season 4 50 mile race is over and there are a bunch of takeaways. Listen to the experience here!
Rebecca is ready to go, quite literally. A last minute stop to the doc and some last minute coaching and game planning from Liza.

Training our feet and lower legs to be stronger. Taking care of them after runs. Knowing how to take care of them on runs. This and more on the 50 miler Rebecca will be running in 15 days(as of this recording)
Ultra running ain't easy. Training for these events isn't either. Grady has been through the ringer lately and has some news to share. It's not always pretty but it's usually worth it.
Thanks for listening.
Liza recently wrote an article on happiness and running in regards to social media so we thought it would be a great topic for the show. What should we share? How does what others share affect us? Listen to see where you fall on the spectrum. Thanks for listening.
Grady is still having a pretty tough go at it after his episode with rhabdomyolysis.
How can you mentally get over an injury or episode and get back to your normal self as a runner and athlete?
Ian has some Western States Predictions.
