Both use exercise and running as a way to grieve. Their kids went to school together but they never met until recently. Mark Carles is a runner, brother, son, and one of the bravest athletes we have had on the show. Given a few months to live over a year ago and he is still fighting the rare form of liver cancer he was diagnosed with by running and being with family. We didn't waste any time getting to know Emily on her first call of the newest season. Ian Sharman will be coaching Emily to her first ultra in 2020 at Smith Rock Ascent. This is the first day of the journey and we were there to capture it. It went deep pretty quick but we loved the authenticity and can't wait for more.
Amanda Gautier is a case manager for the Homeless Alliance in OKC. She manages several chronically homeless veterans to help them identify, secure and maintain housing. She is used to problem solving and breaking barriers for the population she serves. Today Amanda talks about her own stories of adversity as she literally lost her eyesight to amoebas that were eating her corneas and then fought to save her life after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She shares her stories of hopelessness, determination and down right badassery!!
