Steph had a HUGE month of big events weekend after weekend.  We now have a few weeks to get her body and mind ready for the Texas heat.  It will be a big adventure and challenge, that's for sure!

Jul 30, 2018

Missy is struggling in that Arizona heat.  91 degrees in the middle of the night will do that for most people.  The biggest issue is that she works outside most of the day so suffering before work is tough and finding the energy after is just as tough.  We talk about fueling a little differently and how that should help as well as some of the mental approaches that should help! Enjoy the show.

Every runner is different but losing weight to have a better chance at being efficient on these long efforts is a common theme for runners.  It's tough. It's tricky, and there isn't just one way to get there.  We talk about this on the show as well as find out where Dan is and how he is generally feeling.  The heat is tough in Texas so he has been running late at night to beat the heat. Liza shares her stories from Hard Rock. Enjoy!

Jul 24, 2018

Had a chance to chat with Scotty Kummer about a bunch of different things in the ultra running world and life.  His show has a similar vibe that anyone can get out there and do some amazing things so we thought it would be a great chance to share his story!  Talked about the toughest event he has done, why Minnesota is underrated for running, and why he started Ten Junk Miles among other things.  Enjoy the show!

Jul 23, 2018

Nick Clark and his buddy got an itch to try a pretty wild route across one of the most breathtaking mountain ranges in Colorado.  4.5 days, 103 miles, and 53,000 vertical later and they lived to tell about it all.  Nick shares the logistics and more from his epic adventure!  Enjoy.

Jul 22, 2018

Kat ran her first Ragnar and shared the experience. Sean's prescribed hills turned into an experience she'll never forget.  She is headed on an epic trip and more on this episode!  Enjoy.

Jul 21, 2018

Red is pumped for a trip to Utah and for her first big mountain experience at high altitude.  She is a bit nervous for her kids so we talk basic mountaineering and go through some strategies that should help make the day more enjoyable.  We add some track sets to her training and get her set up for the next two weeks!  Pumped her night shifts are over for now!  Enjoy the show.

Jul 20, 2018

Season 4 runners Grady and Rebecca know a thing or two about adversity on the trails so who better to interview Heather Ficke, the final female finisher at this years Western State Endurance Run!  Every level of runner will learn something on the show.  Thanks so much for listening!

Jul 19, 2018

Sara basically missed a week of training.  Not every run but much of what was scheduled didn't happen.  Do we just throw in the towel and freak out? Nope.  This was a big part of the talk on the show today. Hope it helps a bit!

Jul 16, 2018

A theme of heading out the door without enough water has emerged this hot and humid summer.  We fix that on this call and get ready for some base building over the next couple weeks. Enjoy the show!

Jul 16, 2018

Candy came armed with lots of great questions.  Most that we haven't had on the show today after only her first few weeks of training.  We know you will learn something today so enjoy!

Jul 12, 2018

Stephanie came with lots of good questions and insights after her Solstice challenge.  She ran 50 miles over the weekend and learned quite  a bit.  We talk about the lack of importance of the taper in this training cycle, calf tightness and how to work through it, and much more. Enjoy!

Jul 11, 2018

Kat has been at it for a couple weeks with her coach Sean Meissner.  We talk about early training and where she should be, where she is.  She found a new muscle she never noticed and has some great adventures planned for the near running future. Enjoy the show!

Jul 9, 2018

Liza goes over a subject we try to cover every summer.  What are the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke?  It's an important show for both runners, crew, and even aid station volunteers.  Dan chimes in on his early training and updates on his continuing weight loss!  Enjoy.

Jul 8, 2018

Missy is literally melting in Arizona. With 115 temps in the summer and big goals of running a first ultra, she has her work cut out for her.  On today's call, we get to know her, her goals, and set her up for a good ramp up to start her training!  Enjoy!

Jul 6, 2018

Stephanie is definitely not the type of client or runner scared to just freaking go for it.  When she reached out for coaching, she was running a 100 miler, somewhere hot.  Her words.  So, we agreed to help her get there.  Rarely when a runners' mind is made up is there a chance to change it so we figured we would both learn some things and potentially go out and finish a brutal 100 in the Texas heat, or just spontaneously combust.  Either way, it'll be one heck of a ride!

Jun 28, 2018

Red is back and refueled mentally and physically to go for the 100k at Bandera.  We talk about what the next couple months might look like from a training standpoint and add more focus to over strength and mobility.  She pulled a tire with some friends, and liked it, so we are going to find ways to add more of what is enjoyable to the training.  It's a great big goal with great big things to learn and we are sharing every step of the way!

Jun 26, 2018

Sara hails from Minnesota and to date has a longest run of 7 miles!  We are excited to help her with the goal of running and finishing the Bandera 50k.   A slow ramp up and keeping her from going out too fast with all the excitement will be a big part of the early coaching.  We get to know her as she is raising her 6 year old alone, working full time, and even pursuing stand up comedy. It's going to be a great ride.  Enjoy and be sure to share with a runner like Sara, it might help them reach their goals!

Jun 26, 2018

Susan just got done running her second 50k and wants to know where the training will go from here.  With another challenging 50k in the fall and the epic Trail Camp at high altitude in Colorado in September we will be changing gears through the hot summer months in Florida.  More strength, more quality runs, and creating a more durable athlete are on the schedule!  We hope you learn something and enjoy the show!

Jun 25, 2018

Caroline is training for her first ultra to be the Bandera 50k as well.  She battled through some chemotherapy recently and is ready to take her body to the next level.  She is here to inspire older athletes who don't know what they are capable of!  Enjoy getting to know her on the first episode!

Jun 24, 2018

Liza Howard gets to meet her newest runner in this first Season 6 episode with Dan Demore.  He has a great weight loss story as well as he will try to navigate losing more on his journey to become ultra.  He started to run roughly a year ago and we think the story why will inspire!  Lots of fun on this first call to get to know Dan.  It's gonna be a heck of a season!  Be sure to follow the journey on Facebook too!

Jun 23, 2018

Kat is one of two Season 6 runners with a dynamic home life and recent huge lifestyle change that has resulted in some major weight loss!  With five children and a fairly stressful job, Kat shares much of her story with her new coach Sean Meissner.  Towards the end of the show she shares her concerns with the project as her coach gets to set the expectations for the early coaching.  Enjoy the show and be sure to follow along on Facebook for her posts!

Jun 22, 2018

Candy has some big goals like most of the runners that are on the show.  Hailing from West Virginia and now in Georgia some of her challenges include a fairly sedentary job and that dang Georgia summer heat.  She has been losing weight consistently since February and that will continue to be a priority to make her more efficient on the trails. She also has a legit little farm which I am sure we will delve into further along the show.   Enjoy and be sure to follow her journey on the Facebook page!

Jun 8, 2018

We get the daunting task of choosing 2 runners for the two featured spots for the Becoming Ultra Season 6. It's not easy but we try to navigate some amazing people to see what might work for the Bandera 50k.  A huge thanks to all of the runners that applied!

Jun 4, 2018

Ian Sharman is back to discuss the new season of Becoming Ultra and to help introduce the newest Sharman Ultra coach to come into the mix.  He is also training for his 9th Western States and just settled down in Bend for what seems like good!  He also shares who he would like to see apply for this newest season!  Enjoy the show!
