Red is pumped for a trip to Utah and for her first big mountain experience at high altitude. She is a bit nervous for her kids so we talk basic mountaineering and go through some strategies that should help make the day more enjoyable. We add some track sets to her training and get her set up for the next two weeks! Pumped her night shifts are over for now! Enjoy the show.
Sara basically missed a week of training. Not every run but much of what was scheduled didn't happen. Do we just throw in the towel and freak out? Nope. This was a big part of the talk on the show today. Hope it helps a bit!
A theme of heading out the door without enough water has emerged this hot and humid summer. We fix that on this call and get ready for some base building over the next couple weeks. Enjoy the show!
Candy came armed with lots of great questions. Most that we haven't had on the show today after only her first few weeks of training. We know you will learn something today so enjoy!
Stephanie came with lots of good questions and insights after her Solstice challenge. She ran 50 miles over the weekend and learned quite a bit. We talk about the lack of importance of the taper in this training cycle, calf tightness and how to work through it, and much more. Enjoy!
Missy is literally melting in Arizona. With 115 temps in the summer and big goals of running a first ultra, she has her work cut out for her. On today's call, we get to know her, her goals, and set her up for a good ramp up to start her training! Enjoy!
Stephanie is definitely not the type of client or runner scared to just freaking go for it. When she reached out for coaching, she was running a 100 miler, somewhere hot. Her words. So, we agreed to help her get there. Rarely when a runners' mind is made up is there a chance to change it so we figured we would both learn some things and potentially go out and finish a brutal 100 in the Texas heat, or just spontaneously combust. Either way, it'll be one heck of a ride!
Red is back and refueled mentally and physically to go for the 100k at Bandera. We talk about what the next couple months might look like from a training standpoint and add more focus to over strength and mobility. She pulled a tire with some friends, and liked it, so we are going to find ways to add more of what is enjoyable to the training. It's a great big goal with great big things to learn and we are sharing every step of the way!
Sara hails from Minnesota and to date has a longest run of 7 miles! We are excited to help her with the goal of running and finishing the Bandera 50k. A slow ramp up and keeping her from going out too fast with all the excitement will be a big part of the early coaching. We get to know her as she is raising her 6 year old alone, working full time, and even pursuing stand up comedy. It's going to be a great ride. Enjoy and be sure to share with a runner like Sara, it might help them reach their goals!
Susan just got done running her second 50k and wants to know where the training will go from here. With another challenging 50k in the fall and the epic Trail Camp at high altitude in Colorado in September we will be changing gears through the hot summer months in Florida. More strength, more quality runs, and creating a more durable athlete are on the schedule! We hope you learn something and enjoy the show!
Caroline is training for her first ultra to be the Bandera 50k as well. She battled through some chemotherapy recently and is ready to take her body to the next level. She is here to inspire older athletes who don't know what they are capable of! Enjoy getting to know her on the first episode!
Candy has some big goals like most of the runners that are on the show. Hailing from West Virginia and now in Georgia some of her challenges include a fairly sedentary job and that dang Georgia summer heat. She has been losing weight consistently since February and that will continue to be a priority to make her more efficient on the trails. She also has a legit little farm which I am sure we will delve into further along the show. Enjoy and be sure to follow her journey on the Facebook page!
Red had a heck of an adventure in the desert going for her first 100k. Not everything went perfect but she did learn a lot. The best part, she is ready to get after it again! Enjoy the show.
Susan trained for 6 months for an ultra in Zion, from the flat beach in Daytona Beach, Florida. This call was the recap of the race and the training that got her there. We hope you learn something from her and every show we post. Thanks for listening.
Susan fought through an early injury to being very consistent over the last few months. She had to get creative to train for a desert and mountain ultra from Florida but we think she nailed what was needed to have a great race. Enjoy the last call before the big day! Thanks for listening.
James completed his first attempt at a 50 mile run on the first try and was only a couple minutes from his stretch goal. Listen to what he learned and what's next. NO intro, no frills, just a conversation between James and his coach, Scott after reaching an epic goal!
James has his first 50 miler this week. This call was about preparation both physically and mentally. We hope this helped him and you get ready for your next big effort.
Red has one of the most challenging schedules to coach around, which is actually pretty fun to figure out. We talk about that schedule issue, gaining more elevation, goals for a big Texas relay race, and how to add different food options on her runs. It was a good call and she is in a good place mentally. Enjoy the show and we hope you learn something!
James has been putting his training to the test and the results have been amazing recently. A couple 50+ mile weeks, PR's, and even some doubt from a fellow local runner all make the call today. Enjoy!
Red has been coming along with her training. Today we talk about adding a lot more vertical to the training plan. She has a few questions about her training that we dive into including, "Should I use a tire pull for resistance training?" It was a fun show and we hope you enjoy!

Susan is like so many other runners. She lives somewhere that has no resemblance of of the terrain and elevation gain of the race she is training for in April. So, we have to get creative. We hope some of these ideas help you in your training!

James has an extremely positive outlook but sometimes when you step in the freezing cold creek, even a bald eagle isn't enough to salvage the day. Dealing with a mentally draining and down week happens to every runner so have a third party look at it with fresh eyes is sometimes all you need to turn it around. Enjoy the show!

Susan had some time off from an injury. She is back at it. What does that look like from a volume and training standpoint? Everyone deals with injury so we thought it would be a great one for everyone today. Enjoy the show!
When you train in Wisconsin, you are going to have to deal with some weather. James is beast moding all winter for sure. We catch up on his training efforts. Enjoy the show!
Red has had some crazy weather in good ol' Texas. We give her a workout to replace an easy 4 miler that any of you can give a shot. Also, a couple big weeks of training coming up. Enjoy the show.
