Looking to more crazy adventures in 2019 and showcasing a few of the runners heading to Texas for Bandera!
A look back to the exciting year of 2018. From Zion to the Grand Canyon and everywhere between, Scott and Steph talk about the epic year and set up for 2019.
Not all pain is created equally. There isn't an injury at the end of everything that hurts. Some pain is there to remind we are still here, and we have no idea where can go.
If you aren't learning as a coach, then you aren't growing as a coach. So this leads me to discuss what are some of the things I have learned as a coach this year, especially some things I am able to pass along to help others. I'm sure Scott has his side of things as well! Always keep listening, always keep learning.
What is a baseline in running? When you start running over a longer period of time, you end up being able to run a certain number of miles without an issue, whether that is 0 miles, 5k, or half marathons and on. What does this mean for the off season, that period after your A races or just the winter time? We're delving into this for this episode on Becoming Ultra! Sit back and enjoy.
Whether you have to run in the dark because that is the only time you have to run, or you need to practice running in the night time, this podcast will hopefully help give you some guidance. Thanks for listening and enjoy your holidays!
It seems a wall is hit in training and racing right around the two thirds point. We talk about why and how to get through this without crashing and burning.
Today I have collected a few stories to share from our Team BU members. Anything from obstacle course racing to my first ultra, to just a time in the woods! A little bit of everything is shared. What stories do you have to tell? Funny, inspiring, dramatic...anything goes as most things can happen out there to anyone. Hope this episode entertains and fills your day.
As a coach, Scott Jones has been putting every client in the last 12-15 years through a version of the hip set he is sharing on the show today. Runners, they need it more than everyone. Enjoy the show!
Long title, let's expand here...
Do you have trail running goals? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing road miles or running on pavement? This episode we go over some of these things and things to consider with your own goals in mind. Ultimately it's up to you, but here are some thoughts and considerations.
It's a proven fact. Every runner thinks they need another 5 months to train for their event. And, it makes sense. We all want to be completely ready for these big efforts. But, sometimes, we have put the work in and it's ready to just trust the training. Today is one of those days with Red.
Ginger has the big goal of finishing her first 100 in April of 2019 and we are excited to be a part of that. Before she get to try for 100 miles, she is running the Bandera 100k in a few weeks. Enjoy getting to know her and learning from the coaching call.
Caroline has some great news after dealing with a potential heart issue and we get to move on to more running related issues with Bandera fast approaching. Enjoy the show!
Sara is getting a little nervous because Bandera is fast approaching. On the call, Scott answers her questions about what to expect as well as delves into some logistics around the event. We hope you learn something today!
Candy has been following her training diligently for 6 months now and it's paying off. She had a heck of a 5 hour training run recently and she will be going to West Virginia for the holidays so we talked about her goals for the last couple weeks before Bandera. We hope you learn something!
Sleep is important, but how can we use sleep deprivation in races? Should we train when sleep deprived? How can we avoid being sleep deprived? This episode is dedicated to both sides continuing on with the December Series here at Becoming Ultra. Hope this podcast is useful especially in these stressful times.
From 7 year olds running for joy without any bad form habits to 75 year olds running the same difficult trail half marathon every year. Running is for all ages, and there are plenty of ways to think about why we run at different ages. Enjoy the show.
This episode is a little more lengthy as it was recorded live for Team BU in regards to the exciting upcoming Becoming Ultra event this season at Bandera! Hopefully there are some little take aways you can grab from this little live session for yourself to make your own race or training run a little bit better or easier, whether that's at Bandera or some other event. Please enjoy today's episode with Steph!
Join our host Scott Jones as he and fellow coaches Ian Sharman and Liza Howard talk about injuries and the many options you might not have considered. The topics range from figuring out when you are hurt, what to do next, where to get checked out, how to prevent, how to save money in the process, and many other aspects of the situation. Enjoy and we hope you enjoy!
Chris McWatters came on the show to do a full course and logistics preview for the Bandera 50k and 100k weekend in January of 2019. From parking, lodging, and when to show up on race day to complete strategy for the course, he covers it all. Drop bags, poles, porta potties, and more for first timers and first time to Bandera runners. It's a must listen for any runners heading to Texas for this awesome event!
It's a tough decision, but when to DNF (did not finish) is sometimes a good idea...and sometimes it's you giving into your own thoughts. Here are some ideas on this touchy subject for today's December series. Hope this helps educate and inspire.
Sometimes we just want to run by ourselves. Actually, for most of us, most of the time we want to ru alone. On this episode we talk about a few reasons you might not have thought about on why you should run with a group, club, or team. It might help you finally reach out to become a better runner. Thanks for listening.
This episode focuses on the runner, you. While you are out doing a race or out on a training run, or a workout, when should you give yourself some tough love and see things through? Hopefully this little podcast will help inspire you to push onward and when the time is right to push yourself. You can do epic things, all it takes is some work that you CAN do. Enjoy!
This is a common question we have to answer individually as runners. When do I need to see a professional for an injury? It's nuanced and not always perfect but if you can't move well or normally, it may be time. Dan has been going through this and we talk about it on the show.
Oh snap, I'm traveling, what can I do to get in a workout? A lot of us during the holidays have this issue, but it doesn't have to be an issue. You can utilize you time and efforts on the go where-ever you may go! You can get a good workout in even if you don't run at all believe it or not. Enjoy this December Series podcast.
