Will is back, well, he never really left. Ellie and host Scott talk out the options for this unprecedented season of Becoming Ultra!
A week after the mental and physical adjustment from the virus, Ian and Emily get to talk about the new direction Season 8 is taking and how these goals should inspire others to keep moving.
Unprecedented. We are hearing that word a lot these days. If we do anything here at Becoming Ultra it is bringing the idea of persistence and resilience to the masses. We have a plan too! Enjoy!
Emily and Ian go back and forth on how to keep Emily moving and motivated through this crucial time of her training! An upcoming 30k should be a great test and confidence builder. Enjoy!
Will has been big time since our last call and we didn't even have to get on his case this call! He had a great experience in his first 6 hour timed event in Vegas. He even saw Elvis. He got to test out the trails at Smith Rock which was awesome as well and he ran fast on one of his training sessions. So much faster that it got Ellie's attention and had to be addressed. Also, Ellie gets called out for being amazing! Enjoy the show.
Will is plugging away in the rainy and muddy Northwest and it led to a bigger conversation of mindset in less than ideal conditions. Most of you will be able to relate. Keep it positive in your training and the race should be much easier. Enjoy.
Emily and Ian catch us up on her running and other life stuff! We go into our weekly slang segment too!
Will has had some great breakthroughs recently in training for his first ultra ever, the Smith Rock 50k in Oregon this May! A new approach to daily nutrition has him feeling strong and his runs are getting longer and stronger! Ellie shares what the next stage of training holds and Will complains about the rain, just a little! Enjoy!
Emily thought she was the only one. The coaches thought it was everyone? So, who actually misses runs and how do we move on from these in the big picture of a training program? We answer that and more on the show today! Enjoy
Will is ready to see some results and Ellie reassures him they are coming. Scott can't talk. Enjoy the show following runners training for their first 50k!
Emily had a road trip as an adult child and shared that Becoming Ultra could possibly be a cult on first impression from some family members! We talk about her running over the last couple weeks. We talk early year goals for the masses and we throw out some more unique words to try and stump Ian and his English or British background! It's a fun one!
The new year is here and we catch up with Will and his coach Ellie. A double digit run coming up as well as a 6 hour running event. We also dive into trail etiquette stories. Happy New Year and enjoy!
Emily is getting her training rolling in the first couple weeks of training for her first ultra in May of 2020. Ian catches us up on her progress and answers some common early training questions.
Will and Ellie catch up a bit. Will asks about gear he needs. Ellie learns a little about baseball.
Mark Carles is a runner, brother, son, and one of the bravest athletes we have had on the show. Given a few months to live over a year ago and he is still fighting the rare form of liver cancer he was diagnosed with by running and being with family. Matching tattoos with his mom, late nights and early mornings with his brother and even some kind words from Dan Rather will have you rethinking what you should get out of every day. Enjoy the show.
Mark's Go Fund Me
Will and Ellie get to chat for the first time on the show. We learn when the switch flipped for Will and when and why he started running. We also dive into the initial coaching expectations between the two. Enjoy.
We didn't waste any time getting to know Emily on her first call of the newest season. Ian Sharman will be coaching Emily to her first ultra in 2020 at Smith Rock Ascent. This is the first day of the journey and we were there to capture it. It went deep pretty quick but we loved the authenticity and can't wait for more.
On this Band of Runners series we will be sharing some of our favorite speeches from the camp that happens in Texas every year for Veterans and runners from all over. Pam Smith is one of the best runners and humans in the sport. We think you'll enjoy!
Your host, Scott Jones, along with Ellie Greenwood and Ian Sharman spend some time deciding who will be featured to train for their first ultra on the Becoming Ultra Project!
Scott had the chance to sit down with Rob Steger of Training for Ultra and talk all things running from his big efforts over 200 miles to the launch of Season 8. It was a live interview and we think you'll really enjoy it! Thanks for listening!
